And it’s about content that is consumed differently to traditional media. While it requires a very different mindset to traditional media production, there are many disciplines a traditional journalist working in print or broadcast can take into the new world. The principle disciplines are about recognising and telling a good story. However, to be successful in the digital world, journalists and editors need to be skilled-up to tell stories in a totally new way. This training unit explains the basic principles, strengths and weaknesses of different media and formats. It offers guidance on which media or format to use when telling a story to best suit the audience’s expectations. This programme underscores the fact that a combination of different media and storytelling tools increases the impact of a story and optimises the value for the audience. This also binds the audience closer to the brand of the publish-ing group. Multiple exercises show the participants how to identify the right storytelling tool and format. NB: This training course is also offered to Ifra member companies as an in-house event to optimally focus on the individual, strategic priorities of the media house concerned. Target Group: Reporters and editors who are looking for a new, creative angle. TrainersDr. Dietmar Schantin started his career as a studio manager at the Austrian Broadcasting Cooperation. He has a Ph. D. in Economics and Technology and worked for five years as a project leader for a management consultancy in Switzerland before becoming the managing director of an online system company, a spin-off of the Styria Media Group in Austria. Dietmar has lead and advised on numerous reorganization projects for a variety of companies including media houses. In 2005 he joined Ifra as the Director of Newsplex and currently advises publishing houses around the world on developing their editorial strategies. Prof. Joachim Blum is an independent media consultant who specialises in newspapers. He has lectured as a professor for Journalism and Media Production and is an honorary professor in Media Science at Trier University. As an Ifra Associate Consultant, he carries out consulting projects at newspapers both in Germany and internationally, in addition to organising workshops and training courses for cross-media newsroom practice as part of the IfraNewsplex programme. Included in the price are the course fee, documentation, luncheon and beverages during breaks. In case of cancellation up to two weeks before the workshop, we will be compelled to charge a 50% administrative fee.
