IFRA Newsplex Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - Multimedia Story Telling

2008/05/28 - 10:00
2008/05/29 - 17:00
Location:
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The digital world is about content, not medium. And it’s about content that is consumed differently to traditional media. While it requires a very different mindset to traditional media production, there are many disciplines a traditional journalist working in print or broadcast can take into the new world. The principal disciplines are about recognising and telling a good story. However, to be successful in the digital world, journalists and editors need to be skilled-up to tell stories in a totally new way. This training unit explains the basic principles, strengths and weaknesses of different media and formats. It offers guidance on which media or format to use when telling a story to best suit the audience’s expectations. This programme underscores the fact that a combination of different media and storytelling tools increases the impact of a story and optimises the value for the audience. This also binds the audience closer to the brand of the publish-ing group. Multiple exercises show the participants how to identify the right storytelling tool and format. NB: This training course is also offered to Ifra member companies as an in-house event to optimally focus on the individual, strategic priorities of the media house concerned. After this session the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the landscape of the digital world in terms of non-linearity, interactivity, personalisation, community and platforms
  • Identify the key differences between traditional and digital media in terms of how content is consumed
  • Identify key storytelling tools available for digital communication in terms of text, animation, pictures, graphics, audio, and video
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of key story-telling tools and key platforms in terms of which tool to use for what part of a story.

Target Group: Reporters and editors who are looking for a new, creative angle.
