As-Safir newspaper was first issued on March 26, 1974 in Beirut, Lebanon, as an Arabic political daily. Its motto was, and still is, "the Voice of the Voiceless" and its slogan "Lebanon's Newspaper in the Arab World and the Arab World's Newspaper in Lebanon".

As-Safir's editorial contents are News, Politics, Finance, Culture, Features, Sports and Entertainment. These are covered by journalists based in Lebanon and correspondents in Washington DC, Paris, London, Cairo, Damascus, Amman, Moscow, Rome, and Bonn, with the help of various other News sources.

Today, thanks to technology, As-Safir has overcome many hardships (such as censorship and the high cost of printing abroad), and it can now reach its readers in the five continents through the internet. Since 1996, As-Safir Newspaper has been publishing its Electronic Edition on the Worldwide Web, accessible free of charge to every reader around the globe.
